What Tools or Products Help You Stay on Track as a Writer?

What’s a tool you can’t live without as a writer?

This is something authors ask each other a lot. It gets phrased in a lot of different ways, but it all boils down to wanting to make sure you’re not missing out on something that would really help.

Every author would answer this differently, and on some days, I’d tell you it was my little electric tea warmer (basically a hot plate for a teacup). It’s amazing and makes sure that when I forget my tea I don’t come back to a yucky cold cup.

Most of the time, I’d say it was an add-in for Word that does a countdown timer or a word countdown (ishouldbewriting.net). I love it. It’s wonky and doesn’t always work right, but I love seeing the timer or words go down. I change it up depending on what I need or what motivates me more, but it’s a great visual for me to stay focused and not jump away from the page until I complete my goal.

Because some days, staying on track and not wandering away every five minutes from what I’m supposed to be writing is the hardest part of being an author.

Cuties N Kink New Merch! Aliens, Corsets, and More Glittery Peens

New Merch Day! This is nearly as much fun as when a new release comes out. I love looking at all the different options but they make me want to shop. This might be dangerous because there are only so many mugs an author needs, right?

Penis mug, anyone?

Hmm, how about a sexy doll? Emerson is fabulous on everything and he loves being the center of attention, so there is no wrong answer about what to pick here. But I think the notebooks are going to be my favorite way to let Emerson show off in my office.

And for the last round of new merch this week…my sweet aliens. I’m thinking either the hardcover journal or the tote bag. (Imagine me giggling here) I’m not sure I want to explain about the tentacles when I go to Walmart, though, but a book convention? That could be fun. Tentacles for GRL, anyone?

Troublemaker at Heart – Daddy’s Little Artist Now Available!

Gray and Camden are finally here!

When Gray first popped up in Lane, Leashes & Lace book 3, it was because I knew Wilder had been talking to someone. He’s the type of guy to have a few close friends who he opens up to. When I poked at him to see who he should talk to about Lane, Gray jumped right up.

Mostly because he’s a troublemaker at heart.

He wasn’t on page often, but he was one of the side characters I got asked about the most by readers.

When I started asking my Facebook group for help listing off side characters that needed a book, he was one of the first they mentioned. It just took me a while to figure out what he’d been up to and why he was so frustrated.

When I got asked to do the Daddies for Dollars series, I knew Gray was finally ready to talk…mostly because he’d been dragged into drama.

I can’t wait for you to read his story and to finally meet Camden…the cutest little artist ever.

Check out the first chapter of Daddy’s Little Artist if you’re curious about how Gray reacted when he heard about being auctioned off.

Daddy's Little Artist by MA Innes - Gay Romance Book Cover

Blurb:

When getting unexpectedly sold in a charity auction is the most interesting thing that’s happened lately, Gray knows something has to change. Unfortunately, he first has to figure out why he’s been purchased and if the crayons around the cutie’s house and ABC chicken nuggets he’s served for dinner have anything to do with it.

Camden’s pretty sure he didn’t order the attractive, slightly frustrated man online, but with him standing on his front porch and glaring so strikingly, he can’t rule it out. He knows he’s slightly disorganized and easily distracted, but he would remember ordering Gray to be delivered, right?

When two meddling family members butt in where they don’t belong, a new Daddy and a sweet little with a passion for junk food and crayons might find true love…but they’re still hoping to drop a house or two on some meddling busybodies.

**Author’s Note**
This is a standalone age play romance. However, Gray was originally a side character that showed up in Lane, book three of the Leashes & Lace series. You do not need to have read that series to enjoy this book.

Daddy’s Little Artist is part of Daddies for Dollars multi-author series, where every book features a swoon-worthy Daddy, a boy he adores, and a happily ever after helped along by a fundraiser event. Brought to you by six popular M/M authors, each book stands alone, but with so many delicious Daddy pairings to choose from, why not read them all?

How to Support Your Favorite Authors

I do understand that your favorite author might not be me and you might’ve just accidentally stumbled upon this random website. In that spirit, I will do my best to write objectively (and just keep my fingers crossed that I’ll be your favorite soon).

We’re going to ignore the obvious like buy the book or borrow the book from Kindle Unlimited…because, duh. I’m also very sure we know about how wonderful libraries are and how bad pirated book sites are. I think we can skip over those too. Right?

So you love the book and want to support your favorite odd introvert?

-The first thing you can do is to find a way to tell them that they’re your favorite…or that they’re great and you loved their newest book. Email them. If you’re friends on Facebook, join their group and say something nice or comment on a post. Seeing those wonderful words gives your favorite writer the biggest boost and you’ll never know how much you made their day.

Want to do more than tell them they’re fabulous? (Or maybe the idea of talking to them gives you hives?)

Sign up for their newsletter (and actually read it lol).

Review the book you love. A short comment about how you felt about the book and what you enjoyed most is literally all you have to do. Review on Amazon, or Goodreads, or Bookbub, or where ever else the author sells the book (like Barnes and Noble).

See if they have a Patreon. (Only if you’ve got the money.)

If you’re a member of book groups on Facebook, tell people about the new book you read that you loved. If you’re on other social media platforms, talk their books up there. If you’re really not into social media, look at the platforms you do like…maybe you recommend it on Bookbub or create something about it on Pinterest.

Check out their website and interact with any polls or questions they ask. Authors need information and filling out surveys is incredibly helpful.

Interact with their posts, videos, or anything else you see from them on social media. Say you’re on Facebook…You see a post from your favorite author. Like it. Comment on it. Heart it. The more you interact with the posts, the more Facebook will show it to other people. That is a huge help.

-I know I said I wasn’t going to talk about buying the book…but I lied. If you have KU and you know you’re going to buy the book, read it in KU first and then go back and buy it. Your favorite author gets paid twice that way.

-If you see one of their books free on Amazon or one of the other sites your author sells it on (not pirates, that’s a no no) then grab the freebie and tell the computer brains behind the scenes that readers want that book.

The more you interact with your author on social media and do simple things like review the books, it will make a big difference for them in the long run. We really appreciate every reader and we love hearing what you love about our books. This is not an exhaustive list, but I think it’s a good start.

Daddies for Dollars Authors Share Favorite Story Moments

Daddy’s Little Artist will be here before you know it (April 18th!) so I thought I’d tell you more about my book and the others in the Daddies for Dollars series.

When I was first asked about doing a shared world series based around Daddies being auctioned off for charity, it sounded like fun, but I wasn’t sure how it would work because it didn’t seem like something my guys would volunteer for without a bit of prodding.

Then I started poking at some of the people in my head and Gray raised his hand. (Remember, Gray was Wilder’s best friend from Lane in the Leashes & Lace series.)

His mother did it.

Yep, it’s the charity version of being voluntold.

He was not a happy camper…but I was. He’d finally started chatting and writing his story meant I could cross his name off the side characters who need stories list on my office whiteboard.

But aside from that it’s been so much fun getting to know Gray and watching him figure out what he needed to be happy—because let me tell you, his family is nuts and his dating life has sucked—but now he has Camden. I think that’s my favorite part of the story. They’ve both figured out what they need to be happy.

Daddies For Dollars Series

I asked the other authors in the series what their favorite parts of their story are so I could share with you.

Honey London’s first answer was my favorite. She was excited that it was finished. After a laugh, she gave an answer that made me sigh… “Personal growth…both characters improve as people/overcome personal obstacles because of the other”. I think that’s going to be a great story.

Della Cain wins the cuteness prize… (after overthinking this question just a bit lol) “What I love about it is that it is a sweet daddy-boy dynamic with a bonus side of adorable animals.” So much cuteness…but it made me go hunting for the blurb because I was curious about the animals part…one of the main characters runs an animal shelter…have I pointed out how cute this is going to be? This one is already live and in KU so go check it out.

A.W. Scott was the overachiever in the group and gave me so many fun things about her story, but this is the one that jumped out at me the most… “The grumpy billionaire realizes he’s a Daddy after meeting a stubborn boy just waiting for someone to take care of him (even though he won’t admit it at first).” I love grumpy Doms. They’re some of my favorites and I can’t wait to read this one.

-I have to admit, I’m most curious about Simon Strange’s book, though. He said his favorite part was… “Harrison’s position of being dominant for Loren and submissive for Kody, because it makes for an unusual dynamic and sets the stage for all sorts of sexy shenanigans.” Sexy shenanigans are some of my favorite things.

Chara Croft’s first answer was “kittens.” But after making me laugh, she made me smile and said her favorite part was… “Deke helping Marshall see that there’s more than one way to be a Daddy.” This looks perfect for those of you who are looking for a cheeky, delightfully innocent sub who knows what he wants and goes after it…and tails make everything much more fun.

I loved all the responses and seeing the different personalities come out in the authors as they tried to answer my question. They’re all so funny, and I’m just a tiny bit of a sadist here, but I liked making them squirm. (Shh, don’t tell.)

More Books In German Coming Soon!

I got a sweet email the other day that reminded me that I needed to tell you all more about which books will be coming out in German this year. I’m going to have a computer program translate this into German, so please forgive anything that doesn’t sound right.

As long as everything goes according to plan, the next books that will be coming out are the Unconditional Love series. It’s a trilogy where each book features a different couple. These books have a mix of kinks in them, but the first book is age play. The main characters in the first two books are best friends and the stories are best read in order, so I’m going to make sure the books are released close together.

I’m aiming to have the first book, Unexpected, released in May and then the other two books released over the summer, hopefully, in June and July. Along with giving you a quality translation, making sure you don’t have to wait too long for books in a series to be completed is important to me.

That’s one of the reasons why I started my self-published translation journey with Flawed Perfection. It’s one of my favorite stand-alone books that I’ve written. Getting everything organized last year was more difficult than I expected, but I’m hoping to get his friend Eric’s books done later this year as long as everything works out right.

One of the things on my to-do list is to get a newsletter set up for my German readers, so stay tuned for more information on that before the next release.

For those of you who’ve read Flawed Perfection, thank you for taking a chance on my book and I hope you enjoy the other translations that will be coming out later this year.

Share in the Comments: What else should I consider for German translation?
