An Emotional Book, A Grumpy Deputy, and An Outrageous Omega (October Past Pages)

Past Pages - Shaw Montgomery MA Innes Books Published in October from 2016-2024

In 2024, I ran a series called ‘Past Pages’ in my reader group. Each month, I’d spotlight past books published during that month – sharing writing secrets, character insights, and the stories behind them. I even opened the floor for questions and comments. This year, I’m bringing ‘Past Pages’ to my blog! Feel free to join the conversation, whether you participated last year, or not. I’m excited to revisit these books with you!

Wade - Romance and Revolutions Series book 6 by Shaw Montgomery- Gay Romance Book Cover

Wade

Oh my sweet heart Wade.

I hate crying when I write which is why I stick with really happy goofballs a lot of the time but I couldn’t avoid it in his story.

Wade is in my omegaverse (the Romance & Revolutions series) and his is the last book in that series. So every time he popped up with something sad I kept telling myself I didn’t have to worry about it yet. It would be a long time before I got to the last book.

Then I got to the last book.

If you haven’t read his book, he’s a sweetheart who lost his husband too early and he just stopped living for a long time.

His friends are a great support system, though, and they’re always there for him. But it’s still an emotional journey for him.

Ugh, writing sad is soooo hard and I was really glad when that book was over. (I’m terrible) But to me he’s a really good character and he’s so sweet as he falls in love again.

If you haven’t finished this series then I’m going to challenge you to go have a good cry with my cutie as he falls in love again.

Answer in the comments: If you have already read the full series, which book was your favorite?

Do you have any questions for me about Wade??

Magic and Mayhem by MA Innes - Gay Romance Paranormal Book

Magic & Mayhem

My dragons lol.

I love all these guys but this one was so much fun. I love how adorably innocent and manipulative Kenzie is and I loved how grumbly Talon is. And all his “F-ing aliens” comments and thoughts just crack me up.

When I was in the “what if I wrote this” stage, Sage was asking me what I wanted to write and I told her I wanted to write about dragons. She didn’t tell me I was crazy but she was amazing at charging right in and giving me a list of a thousand questions to answer about the world before I could start writing the book.

She made the most amazing google doc with pages and pages of questions that I had to think about to make sure I knew what I was doing when I started writing the book.

Talon just jumped out on the page, though. He immediately charged right in and started grumbling about how he was stupid and there were too many aliens.

The first chapter of Magic and Mayhem is one of my favorites from everything that I’ve written and Kenzie is one of my favorite littles.

Answer in the comments: But who’s your favorite dragon or human in the series? Do you have a part in any of those books that you reread because they’re your favorite? Do you have any questions for me about Magic and Mayhem?

Austin - Romance and Revolutions Series book 2 by Shaw Montgomery- Gay Romance Book Cover

Austin

Writing his book was so much but he’s so outrageous and we kept having to talk about some of his questionable past decisions.

He kept trying to tell you guys all about everything he was proud of but a surprising amount (surprising to me lol) was illegal or questionable. So we settled on being vague.

Some people just have more money and passion than common sense.

But it was fun having a character that always wanted to go a bit too far and who’s just so different from me lol.

My favorite part of him as a character is that he will do anything for the people he loves and thinks of as “his”. And I love when he sees something that he wants he just goes after it.

Answer in the comments: What’s your favorite scene that Austin has been in or thing that he’s done? Have you read about my omegas yet? Do you have any questions for me about Austin??

  1. So many great ones this month!

I have to say that Wade made me laugh as much as he made me cry. The omega drunk night in this one is absolutely epic and the emotion of the story overall was a great way to wrap the series.

My favourite Blue Ridge character? Lorne. He’s just so ridiculous you have to love him.

Austin. My favourite thing Austin has done… I have a list, but I think his interrupting Charlie and Ansel’s scene is one of his best busy body moments. Sneaking the moonshine in on drunk nights, and traumatizing Dakota with mental images of monster dicks might be my absolute favourite. Or being naked because you can’t be a secret agent in a flashy dress. Maybe that one. LOL

    I’m decisive, as always.
