My Ah-ha Moment When Writing The Original Bound and Controlled Series – Plus New Personality Quizzes!

When I first started writing, I was a teacher with a long, painfully boring commute through the middle of nowhere. So I would spend the drive back and forth dreaming about stories and planning what I would write.

My writing time was in short bits normally early in the morning, so I could get in a few hundred words before I had to get my kids up for the day. Since there was very little time to dawdle when I sat down to write, I planned things out in my head as I drove.

I knew I wanted to do a series, but I wasn’t sure what it should look like or who they would be until one morning on my way to work. As I was driving down the main street in my little town, I passed by a local insurance company and it clicked. I can still picture where I was when I had that ah-ha moment.

Suddenly I knew who they were and what they were doing, and I remember being so frustrated that I couldn’t pull over and write it all down.

I made random, rambling notes into the recorder app on my phone, and then when I got to school, I scrambled to write down as many ideas as I could so I didn’t lose them. Needless to say, after a few more days of driving, I knew all about the brothers and started working my way through their partners.

The insurance part really clicked because before I was a teacher, I sold insurance for several years. I could almost see the guys in my imagination shaking their heads because they thought it should’ve been obvious what they did for a living.

The original Bound & Controlled series is based around four brothers who are all looking for love and all into BDSM in some way. They were so much fun to write because they pick at each other and tease, but you can see that family is important to them.

The new series, Tender Control, is taking us back to the Bound & Controlled club and there are fun cameos from the original couples as well as the owners of the club, Ben and Conner. If you haven’t read the first series, this is the perfect time to catch up, but it’s not necessary to enjoy the new books.

And if you’ve already read the books, have fun taking the quizzes that will tell you which brother or partner you’re most like. This was so much fun to put together—I hope you enjoy it. (if I get a good response to the quizzes, I might do some for other books, just saying)

Coming Soon in the Bound and Controlled World – A Whole New Series!

The Bound and Controlled club is one of my favorite parts of my world, but I haven’t managed to take too many characters back there lately. So when I was trying to decide what I wanted to write this year, I knew it was time to change that.

In Something About Loren, you met a few of the guys who are going to be part of a new series, Tender Control. The first book is Bound with You and will be out on March 19. Book two is Bound to You and will be out on April 23. Both books are up for preorder now because lately, I’ve done nothing but write.

(FYI once the world opens up, I’m planning on traveling until I forget where I live, so you might get fewer books eventually. *Fingers crossed*)

But back to my new guys.

The new series revolves around a group of guys who’ve been friends for years. They’re all at the point in their lives where they’re looking for someone special and are all right on the edge of starting to think they’ll never find someone to love.

Porter is the first friend who meets a reserved and slightly confused Landon at his first night at the club. Landon is curious about a lot of things but has no idea who he is because he’s been focused on everyone else for so long he feels completely lost…but Porter is going to change that.

These two are sexy and sweet, but a bit open to new things as well. There are two scenes with watersports. One scene is something they’re watching at the club, so it’s easy to skip. The other is a shower scene that again is easy to skip, but I think the very end of that scene is super sweet. But if you’re curious, both scenes are really romantic and explore the intimacy of that kind of scene, not just the topic itself.

If you’re curious, here’s the first chapter of Bound with You, and coming up soon, I’ll tell you more about how the original B&C series came about.

Inspiration for a New Sub

Starting a book for me is always a very random process. I find inspiration in odd things like song lyrics or comments on the radio or bits of conversations I hear when I’m running errands. Sometimes it’s a picture, but not very often. Usually finding a picture that fits my idea of who the characters are comes late in the process. But once in a while, that changes.

A few weeks ago I was browsing through Facebook and I saw a premade cover (a book cover a designer had put together randomly and not for any specific author) and I knew he was one of my guys. But I didn’t know what I was going to do with him.

I had a list of ideas I wanted to write for next year, but I told myself he didn’t fit anything I’d already planned—I was wrong.

I was sitting down at a bakery a few days later, escaping my house for lunch, and I had my notebooks spread out all over the table. As I started to look at one series in particular (my new series around the Bound & Controlled club), I realized that was where my new guy belonged.

The sexy, tattooed cutie with a bit of a piercing smile is going to be a sub in the new series…he just doesn’t know he’s a sub yet.

But I’ve got the perfect Dom in mind for him, and the whole series is going to be fabulous to write because I’ll get to go back and touch base with the fun guys from the original Bound & Controlled series. The first book should be out early next year—February, I think. I can’t wait to show you what I have planned.

What’s Coming Next? Books in November, December, and 2021

Nothing ever goes according to plan for me…I write out a list of what I want to write and my characters giggle and do their own thing.

In early October as I was finishing the last book for Leon and Morgan, I started poking at several ideas and I told myself I was going to write a new Beautiful Shame book. But my brain didn’t like that idea. With everything going on lately, and just the general chaos in my head, it all came to a screeching halt.

Well, not a complete halt. I have names and fabulously dirty ideas about what they’re doing to do together, but for those books I have to be in a certain frame of mind to write them. So now that my kids are back in person at the school part-time (two days a week), I’m going to try again because those are so much fun to write.

But that left me wandering around my house mid-October trying to decide what to focus on. So I started poking at my list again and rearranging things. That put Maverick and Trip at the top of the list suddenly. It wasn’t the order I’d planned to have their book done, but they were chatting and fun to write, so that worked for me.

So what’s coming up… Well, Leon and Morgan’s second book is up on preorder(here) and will be out on November 13th. (Check out Book 1 here.)

After that, we’ve got Trip and Maverick’s completed book coming out on November 29th. (Don’t forget to check out My Cameron before Trip’s book comes out!

Then in mid-December the goal is to jump back into the Beautiful Shame books because I love writing those and the dirty talk in those books is always so much fun.

I’ve saved the best for last, though…

Next year we’re going back to the B&C club in several books. The Bound & Controlled club is getting another series with lots of fun club action and lots of fun cameos from the guys from the first series.

We’re also going to see more of Bishop and Gray from the Leashes & Lace world, as well as more of Loren and Gordon. I’ve got great ideas for all the guys and now I just need to clone myself so I can get it all written.

Bryce!

Bryce, Oliver, and Troy…I was unsure how the book would look when I started writing it. I had a few specific things in my mind that needed to be included, but a lot of the story was vague so I took a step back. I decided I needed to see how everything started for them before I could write anything else. So I began playing with the club scene where the three men took the steps that changed their relationship.

Writing the prequel was fun, and it helped me see who the characters were. Exploring the dynamics in a relationship with three people was interesting, and I know they won’t be my only ménage book. When I’d originally started planning Bryce’s book, I’d pictured starting the story in a completely different place. The guys had other ideas, though, so they got their way.

I can’t wait to see what you think. The book will be out this Sunday, September 17, 2017, and will be on sale for $0.99 the first couple of days. Take a look at the first chapter

Bound and Controlled : Bryce Chapter 1

Chapter 1

Bryce

He knew he should stay away, but he couldn’t. Something about the couple had called to him from the first moment he’d seen them. He’d tried to leave them alone and find someone else that attracted him, but it wasn’t possible.

Watching as Troy carefully wrapped a still-shaking Oliver in a soft blanket, he told his feet they needed to walk away from the intimate moment in front of him, but the traitors kept taking him closer. Inch by inch he worked his way toward the darkness.

The sounding scene had been for the audience at Bound & Controlled as well as the men, but now that it was over, the aftercare was only for the two of them. It was intimate, private. Every rule and piece of etiquette he’d ever learned screamed at him that he needed to leave them alone and give them their space, but something kept him orbiting their private world.

Bound & Controlled was a gay BDSM club that was open and accepting, but there were rules and boundaries. Bryce knew he should find someplace else to be, but it was impossible. It didn’t matter that he was supposed to let them have their space after a scene. Bryce couldn’t leave them. He’d managed to walk away in the past, but it was quickly becoming impossible.

He had to seem like an idiot, or worse, some kind of weird stalker. They were just so perfect together. The passion and the emotion, it was incredible. He loved watching them, but standing outside looking in wasn’t satisfying him any longer.

Troy’s firm voice echoed from the dark corner where the two men sat at the L-shaped sofa, startling Bryce. Even in the low light, he could picture the tall, blond Dom, built more like a Norse god than a mere mortal. “Come sit next to him. He’s still flying, but he’ll want to see you when he comes down.”

His heart stopped.

He felt like he was standing right on the edge of an entirely different universe, and he didn’t know if he could do it. The two warring sides inside of him were finally both on the same page. They didn’t care if they got to dominate Oliver or submit to Troy, they simply wanted to curl up on the couch and hold them both. His brain, on the other hand, kept shouting to walk away.

It was confusing.

A relationship where he was the Dom and sub couldn’t work.

They wouldn’t want him for more than a scene or two, anyway.

His brain was adamant; luckily, his feet listened to lower parts of his body. He took the first step closer and didn’t even realize he was going to say something until the words were already out. “He will?”

It wasn’t much, but Troy didn’t seem to mind. His stern voice warmed a few degrees, sending pleasure through Bryce. “You know he will. Come sit down.” His voice dropped low and heat threaded through it. “Don’t make me tell you again.”

His inner sub rolled over and squirmed for attention. Bryce felt his skin flush and his heart rate increase. It’d been so long since someone really understood what he needed. Would they be able to see who he was and grasp that he was both a Dom and a sub at heart?

Was he willing to take the chance?

Yes.
